- Estaminet - Bakery "Aux Champs Elisées"
- This "estaminet", situated on the main raod from Antwerp to Gent (buidl around 1750), in Lichtelare, a hamlet of Lochristi between the town and a local tollhouse on the border with Oostakker, was before WWI one of the so called "Horse Inns" between Lokeren and Ghent. The small stable was situated at the right of the estaminet, and isn't visible on the photo. This image dates probably before 1914.
This estaminet did feel the impact of the abolition of the local toll barriers end of the 19th century. It was a meeting point, to arrange some situations and circumvent some taxes.
Was destroyed and replaced with a modern house, when the grandgrandson of the man who build this estaminet returned from Congo in the early sixties. His grandfather was a lorry driver beteween Lokeren and Genth end of the 19th century.

Heraldry
The municipal Coat of Arms represents those of the abbeys of Sint-Pieters (at the left) and Sint-Baafs (at the right), because the four villages (Lochristi, Beervelde, Zeveneken and Zaffelare) did belong to the Manor of one of those abbeys.
