M. NAPOLÉON
Re-Enactment of March in Ligny - Battle of 16 June 1815 Battle
(two days before Waterloo)

Provided by André Bodart. THANKS, André!!

"Napoléon left from Paris on the 12 June and arrived in Charleroi on the 15; on the 16 June there was 60,000 French soldiers and 90,000 Prussian soldiers of BLÜCHER in Ligny area; the battle began at 3 PM (15 h) till the night and Napoléon won. He fought Blücher, beat a retreat, and he didn't follow him....you know the end of the story; instead he joined Wellington in the area of Waterloo."

"That march exists since 1965 (150 anniversary); each year in June to "commemorate" the battle. There are a "company" of "soldiers" from Ligny and from other towns which march past. The uniforms are "a exacta repliqua" [exact replica] except their watches or glasses.........."

Note: André's principal language is French.
