Immigration from Belgium
- A Belgian colonisation project was started in Santo Tomas (Guatemala) in 1843, with the protection of Cardinal Sterckx and Count de Mérode. It was abandoned around 1855. Some influent families in the center of the country are descendants of those immigrants (Ex: Family Maes, Santa Catarina, GTM)
