Act of U.S. Congress of 10Jan1845 provided for the annexation of Texas was ratified 04Jly1845,
and Texas thus became a State in the American Union. She had already maintained her independence for ten years against Mexico. There never was a formal declaration of war made. 02Feb1846 - Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo. On 28May1846, Congress passed a resolution declaring that war existed between the United States and Mexico, and further resolved that it should be prosecuted until we had attained "indemnity for the past and security for the future".
